EAT CAKE. BE KIND. STOP CANCER.
Kate Lewis’ talent in the kitchen extends way beyond just holiday cookies. Sure, cookies are delicious and all but cakes are Kate’s personal favorite. When baking a cake, Kate has the opportunity to flex her other muscles, like decorating. Baking, designing, decorating, drawing and painting are just a few of the gifts that come naturally to her. Each one of her creations is a piece of artwork that demonstrates her awesome abilities – and they’re delicious too!
Surprisingly, Kate is 100% self taught in the kitchen. Cookbooks, baking blogs and YouTube videos helped hone her skills. What’s not surprising is that Kate has a degree in fine art and particularly enjoys painting, which is evident in her decorating. In college, Kate started to bake for fun but today, she likes to bake in remembrance of her brother.
Baking for Billy was established this year after Kate and her family suffered an unimaginable loss. On September 14th 2019, Kate lost her brother Billy to Hodgkin’s Lymphoma after he battled the disease for six long years. During Billy’s illness Kate would bake as a way to distract herself. She frequently brought cupcakes and cookies to the nurses and doctors who were working so hard to save her brother’s life.
Baking for Billy has given Kate the ability to contribute in her brother’s honor, to cancer research. Her goal is to help provide hope for families with loved ones battling this awful disease. 100% of the proceeds from a Baking for Billy cake is donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a world without blood cancers. The organization has invested nearly $1.3 billion towards cutting-edge research to advance cures in Leukemia, lymphoma, and Hodgkin’s disease.
