Basso Cucina Italiana

“Where do you want to go for dinner?” “I don’t know, where do you want to go?” “I don’t care.”
If you’ve never had this painful conversation, I envy you. There’s nothing worse than talking in circles, especially when you’re starving. But I’m here to put an end to your dining dilemmas. Next time your dinner date asks you this age old question, simply say, “Basso!”

Nestled in Barrett Township in the small village of Cresco, Basso has been serving authentic Italian favorites since 2010. We’re talking so much more than just spaghetti and meatballs. What’s even better than Basso’s cuisine is the story of its name. The Pipolos wanted to incorporate all of their families into the business, so they came together and created the acronym “Basso.” Each letter represents a member of the next generation. Clever, right?!

Along with owners Billy Pipolo, Jr. and Kim Stephens, Executive Chef, Bruce, and restaurant Manager, Val, run the show at Basso. While Bruce whips up delectable dinners in the kitchen, Val is behind the bar concocting delicious drinks. Don’t visit Basso without treating yourself to a glass (or two) of Val’s seasonal sangria. With all of the incredible menu options, you may have difficulty making a decision. Start with the Rhode Island Calamari, Billy’s go-to appetizer. Then treat yourself to the Seafood Portuguese – clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops, lobster, and sausage in a bouillabaisse sauce, served over pasta. Is it any wonder this is Kim’s favorite dish? You also can’t go wrong with one of Bruce’s nightly specials – always changing, always amazing.

In addition to its regular dinner menu, Basso offers a bar menu. Assuming the bar menu is limited to chicken fingers and fries? Think again. The new and improved bar menu at Basso features everything from pizza to pasta. (Speaking of pizza, did you know you can order that to go?!) Indulge in the Salmon Filet, prepared to your liking, or try the salad sampler, a Basso favorite. This tapas style menu is perfect when you can’t decide what to order. Share several “small plates” with your date and try all of your favorites. When ordering from the bar menu, choose to dine in the bar area or sit outside and enjoy the final days of summer.

So, what makes Basso so great? At Basso, you’ll indulge in fine Italian food at an affordable price. Whether you’re ordering from the bar menu or enjoying a quiet meal in the dining room, you’ll end the night with a full belly and full pockets. But save room for dessert, because Kim’s cheesecake is out of this world! Reservations are strongly recommended, so call ahead to claim your spot in the bar, outside, or in the dining room. And, of course, scope out the menu online before you go. Buon Appetito!
