It’s time to gather at the lake.

Summer vacation is something many of us look forward to all year. Whether it’s a trip to the beach, an amusement park, or a national landmark, every vacation can be stressful when traveling with a carload of kids. Between the usual car trip complaints and sleepless nights in a hotel room, topped off with a hefty price tag, vacation can make you wonder if it was really even worth it. Why did you plan a family vacation in the first place? To get away and enjoy each other? To leave the stresses of everyday life behind? To try something new? Whatever your reasons, a summer vacation doesn’t need to be an expensive, elaborate trip. Fun can be found right in your own backyard at Keen Lake Camping & Cottage Resort.

My family and I took on a new approach to vacationing this year, and Keen Lake Resort was our first stop. On Mother’s Day weekend, along with a bunch of friends, we settled into our campsite for our first big trip. And it rained. The entire time. But despite the terrible weather, my kids enjoyed one of the most memorable weekends of our lives, thanks to our friends and the many awesome amenities available at Keen Lake. I left that weekend feeling fulfilled, not stressed, and happy to have found a new hobby my whole family enjoyed.

Located in Waymart, PA, Keen Lake Resort includes a picturesque 90-acre lake, spacious campsites, a clean and well-maintained property, awesome amenities, and breathtaking scenery. Boaters, swimmers, and anglers alike can enjoy the sprawling lake. While the pool is a popular hangout during the hot months, the two floating docks at the lake are perfect for lounging. Your pets will love the pet-only beach as well! Playgrounds, bike paths, basketball and volleyball courts, athletic fields, and a game room are available to use when you’re not relaxing by the lake, along with shuffleboard and horseshoes. Daily events, like ceramics, movie nights, and a variety of activities going on at the Red Barn, will keep your kids busy all day.

Family is at the heart of Keen Lake Resort, which is only fitting since the Keen family has owned and operated the site for more than 60 years. The 6th generation of family members currently operates Keen Lake. Welcoming guests and treating them as they would like to be treated remains a priority for the family, and they still believe in their parents’ favorite saying, “You get the guests you deserve.” They feel fortunate to be part of your family’s memories just as you are a part of theirs.

Jan Keen, owner of Keen Lake, says, “Other than the lake, my very favorite place to be is the Children’s Garden. This is the 5th year this program has been in place, and it has served as a wonderful way to introduce children to the farm-to-table experience. Three times per week, we have a variety of activities at the garden. After we have tended, watered, and even harvested our garden, we tell garden stories and hold craft and movement activities. Once we harvest, we will prepare kale chips or salads, fried green tomatoes, or any number of items to bring the growing experience full circle.”

No matter how you like to camp, there’s a perfect spot for you and your family. Their sites include cabins and cottages, RV sites, and tenting areas. Each site is equipped with a fire ring and picnic table and has the option for water, electrical, and sewer hookup. Pets are always welcome, so pack up the whole family for your trip!

Summer isn’t the only time for great camping; you can’t beat the scenery in the fall. Coming up, Keen Lake Resort has two special weekend events you won’t want to miss.
