Since June 2015, Jamie Lee Farmer, accomplished dancer and educator, has been teaching local dancers from the age of 3 to 18. Professional, warm, and fun, Diamond Academy of Dance has built its reputation as one of the top in the area. We had the chance to catch up with Jamie to learn more about what makes her academy so special.

Q. Dancer, performer, choreographer – your experience is impressive! Tell us about it.

A. I have 34 years of dance experience. I began dancing professionally when I was 18 and my first professional job was at Fernwood Resorts as a featured dancer in review shows. I then moved on to Cunard and Carnival Cruise Lines where I traveled and danced internationally for six years. After I finished dancing on cruise ships, I began teaching at local dance schools. I still continue my education at Broadway Dance Center, Dance Teacher Summit, and The Pulse.

Q.What inspired you to start teaching?

A. After dancing professionally, I decided that the next step in my career was to share my passion with other dancers. I wanted to inspire students and teach them all that I had learned in the hope that one day they may have the same passion for dance.

Q. Diamond Academy of Dance is one of the best in the Poconos. What do you think sets it apart?

A. Diamond Academy’s main goal is to stay true to the core of dance itself. We provide our dancers with a strong educational program within a professional, warm, and fun environment. We pay attention to the details in all of our dances. We put on multiple shows each season in an effort to expose our dancers to the stage and give them performance time as much as possible. Each of our shows has a special theme so that no two shows are ever the same. Each is a new, exciting, and entertaining experience for both our audience and dancers.

Q. Is your staff as experienced and talented as you?

A. Each member of the staff brings special talents to the studio. We all help each other in the classes and motivate each other. It is also a benefit to our dancers to have teachers with different styles of teaching.

Q. What type of classes are available and when do your seasons run?

A. We offer a multitude of styles, including tap, jazz, hip-hop, ballet, lyrical/contemporary, and musical theater. Our season begins on September 11, 2017 and classes will run throughout the year until our Final Showcase on June 24, 2018.

Q. Are there any restrictions on age or abilities?

A. We start dancers at the age of three and they are able to dance with us through the age of 18. There are no restrictions and we encourage all dancers to join us for a class whether they have previous dance experience or not.

Q. Is there a particular age that you think is a good time to introduce dance?

A. I believe that the younger a child begins, the easier it may be for him or her to learn dance. However, it is never too late to start something new.

Q. Are the classes only for serious dancers or are they also for individuals who enjoy dance and just want to have fun and learn?

A. We offer both recreational classes and classes for competitive dancers. We have a Sparkling Diamond Competition Team where our dancers compete regionally and nationally. Diamond Academy is also known for our Diamonettes Kick-line Team.

Q. What is your favorite part of owning Diamond Academy of Dance?

A. I enjoy working with all of the wonderful dancers and people who come into my studio. I am truly blessed with all of the people who have come into my life through the studio. I also love that I am able to have control of the artistic details of our performances.

Q. What is something you would like our readers to know?

A. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the studio at any time at 570-269-3110. We also are available through email at Diamondacademy104@gmail.com. Diamond Academy of Dance is also on Facebook where we provide information on classes, as well as pictures and videos of our dancers!
